Mildred R. Gilbreath

Mildred R. Gilbreath 77 of Orangefield died Monday, June 25th, 2018 at her residence. A native of Kirbyville, TX, she was a longtime resident of Orangefield. Mildred was a charter member of Pecan Acres Baptist Church and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star chapter#914 in Vidor. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile and  fund raised a lot for the Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston. But she enjoyed being with her family more than anything else. Visitation will begin at 6:00 pm Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Pecan Acres Baptist Church in Vidor with burial to follow at Stephenson Cemetery in Vidor. Mildred is preceded in death by her parents A.J. and Tommie Stephenson and sister Yvonne DeRamus. She is survived by her children Sandra Flores and her husband Rafael of Kirbyville, TX, Stephen Gilbreath and his wife Zanette of Orangefield, TX, Suzan Steed and her husband Dan of Orangefield, TX, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Frances Marie Perea

Frances Marie Perea, 77, of Orange, Texas, passed away on June 27, 2018, in Beaumont, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 2, 2018, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Burial will follow the service at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery in West Orange.

Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Born in Orange, Texas, on October 8, 1940, she was the daughter of Dorris LaVergne and Edna (Sauls) LaVergne. Frances graduated from Stark High School in 1958 and went on to attend the University of Texas and later McNeese State University in Louisiana. She worked as an x-ray technician and system administrator at a hospital in Vinton, Louisiana and then at Orange Memorial Hospital. Frances loved cats and was the former President of the Humane Society of Orange. She enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and loved playing with kids. She loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorris and Edna LaVergne; and her brother, Edward Nichols.

Frances is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Ronald Perea; brother, Stephen Nichols, of West Orange; brothers-in-law, Jesse Perea, Darrel Perea, and Bruce Perea; sister-in-law, Gayle Barnes; and numerous other loving family and friends.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary Catholic Church Soup Kitchen at 912 W. Cherry Ave., Orange, TX 77630.

Juanita Joyce Tate, 86, of Bridge City passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Medical Center of Southeast Texas.
 
Juanita was born on August 29, 1931 in Kinder, Louisiana to parents, Lucille Langley and Edwin Pitre. She had lived in the area for 50 plus years and was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. Juanita in her younger years was a beautician. Juanita was a loving person who will be dearly missed.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lee Tate; brothers, Shelton Pitre and Ron Constance.
 
Juanita is survived by her sons, Robert LaFleur and his wife, Angela of Pahrump, NV, Leon LaFleur and his wife, Gayle of La Porte, TX, Gary LaFleur of River Ridge, LA, her daughter, Karen Amy-Welch of Mauriceville, TX and ten grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Elroy Pitre and his wife, Peggy of Pasadena, TX, Bill Pitre and his wife, Reneé of Corpus Christi, TX and sister, Dee Arcenaux and her husband, Ronnie of Arp, TX.
 
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 2, 2018 from 5 PM until 8 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. A 10 AM funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at funeral home, celebrant will be Rev. John Hughes. Entombment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.

Betty Sue Cummings

Betty was born on November 24, 1926 to Dan Lawson Shields and Irma May Bailey Shields in Simsboro, Louisiana.

Betty graduated from Polytechnic Institute (Louisiana Tech) in Ruston, Louisiana with a degree in home economics and elementary education. She loved teaching kindergarten in both parochial and public education school systems. She enjoyed playing bridge, traveling the world, cooking, and sewing for family and friends.

Betty was an active member of First Baptist Church of Orange where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She also worked on the benevolence committee. Her devotion to family was an important part of her life. She married B.F. Cummings and they had four children. She loved to visit and play with her seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Irma Shields; loving husband, B.F. Cummings; son, Benny Cummings; sister, Marguerite Jones; and brother-in-law, Allen Jones.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters and daughter-in-law, Brenda Osborn and husband James, of Monroe, LA, Debbie Griffin and husband Larry, of Alvin, TX, Donna Webb and husband Mike, of Orange, TX, and Edie Cummings, of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, Andy Cummings and  wife Jan, Tracy Cummings Hall, Heather Osborn Grillot and husband Christian, Chad Osborn and wife Tashia, Steven Griffin and wife Suzanne, Christy Webb Scott and husband Ryan, and David Webb and wife Keren; and her great-grandchildren, Benjamin Cummings, Claire Cummings, Hannah Hall, Hunter Hall, Tristen Osborn, Shephard Grillot, Brayden Griffin, Hayleigh Griffin, Taylor Griffin, Parker Scott, Jackson Scott, Justin Webb, Avery Webb, and Faith Webb.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of her caregivers, as well as Harbor Hospice.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church Mission Office or to your favorite charity.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange, Texas.

Walter Thomas “Tommy” Melton

Walter Thomas “Tommy” Melton passed away on June 28, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Funeral services will take place at 4:00pm on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange with Pastor Barry Bradley officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Irving Street in West Orange.

Visitation will be held on Sunday prior to the service at Claybar Funeral Home during the hours of 2:00pm-4:00pm.

Tommy was born July 12, 1946 in Warren, Arkansas to Howard & Geraldine Melton.  He was always full of adventure even as a young lad… roaming the river and woods at his grandparents in Arkansas.

He later moved to Orange, Texas and graduated in 1964 from Lutcher Stark High School.  In that same year, he married Shelly Flanigan, the mother of his three children, and moved to Sulphur, Louisiana, where they lived until her death in 2009.

Tommy was blessed to find love again, marrying Janie Wallace, of Orange in 2010.  He loved every minute spent with Janie… shopping, vacationing, spending time with classmates, or just simply being together.  He smiled from ear to ear anytime he spoke of her and beamed when she was at his side…. which is exactly where she was when he left this world around midnight Thursday.

Tommy worked for Firestone Polymer in Sulphur, La where he retired in 2017 after 53 years of employment.  During his life… Tommy enjoyed flying planes, riding motorcycles, and driving fast cars.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing & road trips with his best friend, Mitch.  Tommy was a lover of animals… an antique-shopper… a great story-teller (especially about his work-mates at Firestone)… and mostly enjoyed any time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Shelly and his son, David.

He is survived by his wife, Janie of Orange.  Children – DeeDee Melton of Sulphur; Denise LeBleu (Brian) of Ragley; Stephen Padgett-Olmeda (Marcos) of Austin; and Joey Dale Dronett of Orange.

Also those left to cherish his memory are the joys of his life… his Grandchildren – Wesley Owens, Chris Owens, Nick Mouhot (Bailey), Nicole Mouhot, Robin Young, Lincoln LeBleu, Deven Shuff, Drew Melton, Jeremy Melton, Trey Melton, Shelby Dale Johnson, Seth Dronett, Saylor Dronett & Claire Stelly.  Great-Grandchildren – Eden, Gavin, Adeline, Aleaha, Venice, Indy, Lucas & Liam.

Pallbearers will be Tommy’s grandsons, Wesley, Chris, Nick, Lincoln, Deven, Drew, Jeremy, Trey & Seth.  Honorary Pallbearers are Colt Richard & Peyton Collins.

The family requests in lieu of flowers/plants that donations be made in Tommy’s memory to First Baptist Church-Orange, 7637 MLK Jr. Dr., Orange, Texas 77632 OR to Buckner Children’s Village, 9055 Manion Dr., Beaumont, Texas, 77706.

Robert E. Oldham, 95, of Orange, Texas, passed away on June 21, 2018, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 7, 2018, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Pastor Gary McCormick of First Christian Church of Orange. Burial will follow at Autumn Oaks Memorial Park in Orange.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 7, 2018, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Logansport, Indiana, on January 29, 1923, he was the son of Russell Charles Oldham and Edna Gertrude Bridenbaugh. He served in the U.S. Navy “Seabees” from December 1942 to October 1945, serving in Australia and the South Pacific. Robert was a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion, and the Elks Club. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family and friends, and going to different games and sporting events for his family. Robert loved Morel Mushroom hunting, the Chicago Cubs, and the Houston Astros. He was a faithful servant of God, as a member of 9th St. Christian Church and River of Life Christian Church in Logansport, Indiana, and First Christian Church in Orange.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Edna (Bridenbaugh) Oldham; 1st wife, Avis “Tootie” Eileen Oldham; wife, Carol Oldham; daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Kenneth Blanchard; brothers, Charles Owen Oldham, and Kenneth Oldham; and nephew, Jon Oldham.

He is survived by his sons, Robert David Oldham and wife Kay of New Braunfels, and Mark Oldham of Orange; grandchildren, Erica Oldham and fiancé Kevin Schultz, David Oldham and wife Katrina, Todd Oldham and wife Dena, Keri Oldham, Billy Oldham, Kim Pennington and husband Dusty, Jamie Trimble and husband Bill, and Julie Stubblefield and husband Aaron; great-grandchildren, Colton and Kenleigh Pennington, Will, Alex and Owen Trimble, Carter and Caroline Stubblefield, Emma Oldham, Mila and Weston Oldham, Cade, Greenlea, Paxton and Porter Oldham; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Kristen Pitts Fuss, 38, of Orange, Texas, passed away at home on June 30, 2018.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Friday, July 6, 2018, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Orange, Texas, on July 18, 1979, she was the beloved daughter of Thomas and Donna Pitts. Kristen was so loyal with a heart of gold. She spoke her mind and you always knew exactly where you stood with her. Her daughters and family were her purpose in life. They were the center of her whole world and watching them play softball and other sports gave her the greatest joy. She was so proud of them and watching them become the women that they are today. She enjoyed the company of her family and friends and felt most comfort, joy and peace being with them at home. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Pitts; and her grandparents, Willie and Helen Broussard and Gerald Pitts.

Kristen is survived by her mother, Donna Pitts; children, Alisha Nicole Fuss Crespo and husband Jordan, of San Diego, CA, and Rayven Kai Fuss, of Orange, TX; grandmother, Madge Pitts; brothers, Jason Pitts and wife Chastity Hodges, and Jeremy Pitts and wife Melissa; father of her children, Spencer Fuss; her special friend that brought so much joy to her life, Scott Kelley; nieces and nephews, Sage Jones, Shyanne Fuss, Brennen Pitts, Joseph Fuss, William Mouton, and Jacob Mouton; along with many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Priscilla Jane Richard

Priscilla Jane Richard, age 77, of Orange, Texas, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. A private memorial service for family and friends will be held at a later date.

Priscilla was born on Monday, August 5, 1940, in Kaplan, Louisiana to parents, Hazel (Stelly) and Joseph Trahan. She had been a longtime resident of Orange, Texas after moving from Lafayette, Louisiana many years ago. Priscilla was a very loving, fun, energetic, woman who was full of life and loved her family dearly. She was a reader as well as a writer of letters and stories all her own. With great organization skills, she was often able to get many things done within a short amount of time.  Bingo and being with friends were some of the things that always made her happy. She was involved in the American Legion and the VFW as well. Priscilla could always make other smile and keep people listening with her “gift of gab”. She loved her family and friends

Priscilla was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will forever be loved and missed by all who knew her.

Priscilla is preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Joseph Trahan and husband, Bruce Richard.

Priscilla is survived by her loving children, David Lenz and wife Mary of Orange, Texas, Sandra Taylor and husband Kenneth of Orange, Texas, Steven Lenz and wife Crystal of Mauriceville, Texas and Tammy Shelton of Bridge City, Texas; sisters, Sadie Laird of Orange, Texas and Mary Gagon of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Courtney Watkins, Whitney Shelton (Monek), Tyler Shelton, Summer Cagle, Hunter Taylor, Haylee Taylor (Little), Destiny Kervin, Bryce Stone and Cory Lenz; great grandchildren, Parker Watkins, Paisley Lenz, Laylah Shelton, Londyn Watkins, Leighton, Preslie Cagle, Michael Monek, Bobby Dean Monek, Ayson Kervin, Dawson Kervin and Adlyn Kervin as well as nephews, Reggie, Tony and Clifford.

Dolly DeLeon, 80, of Bridge City, Texas, passed away on July 1, 2018, in Beaumont, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2018, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City, Texas. Officiating the service will be Pastor David Logan. A eulogy will be given by Shay DeLeon. Burial will follow the service at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m.to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.

Dolly was born in Hawaii on December 26, 1937. She worked as a Real Estate Agent for Amy Weakly Agency. Dolly enjoyed spending time gardening, painting, and loved animals. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Delbert DeLeon and Ricky DeLeon.

She is survived by her loving husband, Atilano G. “Tilly” DeLeon; sons, Dave DeLeon, of Port Arthur and Michael DeLeon, of Bridge City, and girlfriend, Rebecca Law, of Pearland ; grandchildren, Shay DeLeon, Jason DeLeon, Leah Bell, Jamie DeLeon, Kimberly DeLeon, Courtney DeLeon, and Maykala DeLeon; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jason DeLeon, Jamie DeLeon, and Chris Bell.

James William Ball

James William Ball, age 87, passed away on September 9, 2017, in Central City, Colorado.  A graveside service, under the direction of Dorman Funeral Home, will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Autumn Oaks Memorial Park, in Orange, Texas.

 

On April 14, 1930, Jim was born to Anna and James Ball, in Port Arthur, Texas.  Jim was a genuinely kind and quiet man, who always made sure to do many kind deeds for others, even if they went unknown.  He loved God and his family, and was a proud American.  Jim served his country honorably in the United States Air Force for 20 years and was especially proud to be a Vietnam Veteran.

 

Jim is reunited with his loved ones; father, James Dyson Ball; mother, Anna Mae Ball; sister, Margie Ewell; brother, Joe Ball; daughter, Elaine Harris; and grandson, Justin Ball.

 

Those who will cherish memories of Jim for many years to come are his beloved wife, Norma Ball; sons, Craig, Randy, and Donald; grandchildren, Olivia, Jack, Jimmy, Jason, Danny, Jeremiah; great-grandson, Calvin; and numerous members of extended family and friends.

The Life of Ms. Joyce M. Hoyt will be celebrated with Visitation Services Friday, July 6th, 2018 from 4 until 6 p.m. at Sparrow Funeral Home. No other services are planned.

Joyce Marie Hoyt was born August 27th, 1947 in Orange, TX to Knoxie and Deniza Hoyt.

She lived a fulfilled life to the age of 70.

She transitioned to meet the Lord on June 29th, 2018 at her residence in Orange.

Ms. Hoyt professed her faith and was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church.

She retired as a Senior Laboratory Technician from LanXess Corporation (B.F. Goodrich Company) of Orange.

She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Prairie View A & M College. She was a high school graduate from Sacred Heart High School of Port Arthur, TX.

She was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and the NAACP-Orange Branch.

Joyce was a loving and caring soul. She enjoyed entertaining her friends and giving to others through many ways and many charitable organizations. She will be greatly missed.

Ms. Hoyt was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Richard Glynn Hoyt (Bubber) of Orange.

She leaves to cherish her memory her aunt, Clemmie Jones of Los Angeles, CA, one sister, Alice Faye Knox of Houston, TX, one niece, Deniza Marie Edwards (Johnathan), great-nephew, Christopher Xavier Hoyt-Edwards, great niece, Adrienne Johnelle Edwards, and God-Son, Jonathan Xavier Jacobs, all of Orange, and a host of loving friends and relatives.

Michael Robert McIntire

Michael Robert McIntire, 41, of Orange, Texas, passed away on July 2, 2018, at his home in Orange.

 

Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on January 24, 1977, he was the son of Michael Dean McIntire and Regina Kingrey. Michael enjoyed listening to music, being outdoors, joking around with his friends, and working on cars. He liked fishing, watching cartoons and wrestling. Michael was a fighter until the end and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Regina Kingrey.

 

Michael is survived by his father, Michael Dean McIntire, of GA; loving wife, Sandra Jean McIntire, of Orange; step-children, Amanda Michelle Strong, of Orangefield and James Lee Strong, Jr., of Buna; step-grandchildren, Brandon Lee Strong, Bryson Alexander Strong, and Blake Allen Strong; his siblings, Michelle, of CA, Deana, of GA, and Jessica, of GA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Cremation will be under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Mary Beth Whiteside, 65, of Orange, Texas, passed away on July 3, 2018, in Beaumont, Texas.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Burial will follow the service at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery in West Orange, Texas.

 

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

 

Born in Orange, Texas, on May 21, 1953, she was the daughter of Maurice Whiteside and Ruby Hilliard Whiteside. Mary Beth was a member of McDonald Memorial Baptist Church. She graduated from West Orange High School in 1971 and went on to get her nursing degree from Lamar University. She enjoyed her job as a registered nurse and worked for Baptist Hospital for 18 years and was still working part time at Pinehurst Nursing Home. Mary Beth loved her family dearly and loved to spend time with them whenever she got the chance. She will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Ruby Whiteside; and her siblings, Barbara Ann Whiteside, Gordon Whiteside, Charles Whiteside, and Katheryn Maddox.

 

Mary Beth is survived by her sister, Betty Amador, of Houston, TX; niece, Kathy Cruz and husband Brandon, of Cameron, NC; nephew, Keith Hernandez and wife May, of Mebane, NC; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

 

Serving as pallbearers will be Keith Hernandez and Keith Hernandez, Jr.

Blake Rhian Mumford, went to be one of God’s little angels on Monday, July 2, 2018 in Port Arthur, Texas. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Autumn Oaks Memorial Park with Father Paul Sumler officiating.  Dorman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Blake is preceded in death by her brother Henri Mumford, maternal great grandparents Buddy and Margaret Semar, paternal great grandparents Gerard and Claire LaSante and Jim and Treva Mumford.

She is survived by her parents, James and Shelby Mumford of Orange, TX, big sister Bailey Mumford, maternal grandparents Wayne and Kelly Poole of Orange, TX, paternal grandparents Allen and Elaine Mumford of Vidor, TX and maternal great grandparents Marshall and MaryAnn Poole of Vidor, TX. Uncle Brandon Poole and his wife Amber of Orange, TX, aunt Melissa Mumford of Vidor, TX, first cousin Kaden Mumford. As well as numerous great aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.

Rodney Eugene Dove, Sr

Rodney Eugene Dove, Sr. was summoned by the angel of death on Thursday, July 5, 2018. He was a 1985 graduate of West Orange-Stark High School. He faithfully attended St. Therese Catholic Church, with his beloved Father-in-Law, John Riggs, Sr. Rodney was an important staple in his community, affectionately known to many as “Uncle Rodney”. He never met a stranger, and was the ultimate Dallas Cowboys Fan! Uncle Rodney will truly be missed.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and French Dove, his brother Sterling Dove, grandsons Royce and Carson Dove, and his Father-in-Law John Riggs, Sr.

 

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Karen “Popy” Riggs-Dove, his Mother-in-Law Claudine Riggs, his children Deanna Harfield (Jarrod), Conchetta Hartfield (Gerald), Mykeshia Hartfield, Melissa Hartfield, Novella Hartfield, and only son, Rodney Dove, Jr., his siblings Kathy Dove, Terry Dove, Carl Dove (Lydia), Paul Dove (Tomeka), Marion King, Sheila Dove, and Nicol Dove-Collins (Travis), 23 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Ira A. Thorla, Jr., 96, of Newland, North Carolina, passed away on June 24, 2018, in Banner Elk, North Carolina.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange, Texas.

Born in Fisher, Louisiana, on December 3, 1921, he was the son of Ira Allen Thorla, Sr. and Lula Mae Goss. Ira was a member of First Baptist Church in Mauriceville, Texas. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 23 years, serving during WWII. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 64 years, Aurielie Thorla; and his siblings, Mildred H. LaCroix, Edith Doty, Bud Thorla, and Tom Thorla.

Ira is survived by his daughter, Rebecca A. Menefee and husband Roger, of Newland, NC; his grandchildren, Kerry Ann Anthony and husband Robert Bryan, of Newland, NC and Chet R. Menefee, of Banner Elk, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

At his request, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of his wife, Aurielie “Lea” Thorla.

Brenda Sue Bergeaux (Hogg), age 65 of Orange, Texas, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018 in Beaumont, Texas. Services to honor Brenda’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Dorman Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jay Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Orange. Family and friends will gather from 12:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service on Saturday.

Brenda was born in Orange, Texas on July 9, 1952 to Beverly Marie Guillory Hogg and Orman Elda Hogg. She enjoyed drawing and coloring. Brenda always loved being around her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Orman and Beverly Hogg and five siblings; Howard Hogg, Donald Hogg, Michael Hogg, Larry Smith and Rhonda Smith.

Brenda is survived by her brother, Carl Hogg and his wife Delitha of Orange, TX, one son DJ Bergeaux and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be her loving family, Carl Hogg, Kyle Hogg, Casey Hogg, Delitha Hogg, Katie Hogg, Tyson Clark and Ashle’a Clark.

 John Louis Riggs

John Louis Riggs, Sr. was called home to be with the Lord on July 6, 2018. Affectionally known as “Johnny”, he was born on August 28, 1939 to parents Edward Joseph Riggs and Elizabeth Bellard Riggs in Orange, TX. John had many siblings and came from a family of six brothers and nine sisters: Robert Riggs (deceased), Edward Riggs (deceased), Cora Riggs (deceased), Craddie Marie Riggs (deceased), Lee Ester Riggs-Floyd (deceased), James Riggs (deceased), Elnora Riggs, William Riggs (deceased), Sam Riggs (deceased), Mary Ethel Riggs-Carradine (deceased), Ora Mae Riggs-Smith, Elizabeth Riggs-Gore, Barbara Riggs-Long, Theresa Riggs-Holmes (m. Lawrence Holmes), and Patricia Riggs (deceased). He has a host of nieces and nephews.

Johnny has three daughters, Elizabeth Ann Riggs, Maria Antoinette Riggs, and Karen Riggs-Dove (Rodney-deceased) and 2 sons, John Louis Riggs, Jr. and David Riggs. He has 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Johnny was a 1958 graduate of Emma H. Wallace High School and later received a certificate in Process Operations from Lamar University. He was first employed with Harding and Lawler, Inc., then moved on to Firestone Polymers LLC, where he eventually retired after working there for 39 years and 7 months. He was a faithful member of St. Therese Catholic Church, a church originally built by his father along with a team of gentlemen. Johnny was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Council #44, he served on the Usher Board, was a member of the Building Committee, and was also a member of the Parish Council. He was a former president of the Dukes Social and Civic Clubs. Johnny proudly served his community by serving two consecutive terms as a City Councilman of Orange, and one term as the Mayor Pro-Tem of Orange.

Johnny was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend to many. He was  firm but fair, a man who always put his family first above all else. In his younger years, Johnny was a football coach to many of the youngsters in Orange. He was a mentor to many of the friends that both his children and grandchildren would bring around the family home, where the door was always open. He was a man who led by example, and had a very strong work ethic, he was always the voice of reason in many situations. His famous quote was “It is what it is”, reminding us not to sweat the small stuff. He would always say, “You’ve been through the hard part”, offering encouragement when at times we wanted to give up. He will truly be missed.

Russell Alton Victor

Russell Alton Victor, 68, of Mauriceville, Texas, passed away on July 10, 2018, at his home.

 

Born in Beaumont, Texas, on December 19, 1949, he was the son of Lawrence Victor and Mildred (Dugas) Sanders. Russell graduated from Nederland High School where he played baseball and was a member of the 1965 State Championship team. He retired as a plumber for the local union. Russell enjoyed any kind of sports, especially baseball.  He was known to his grandkids as “Poppy” and he loved them dearly. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Mildred; daughter, Rachel White; and sister, Kathy Jennings.

 

Russell is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Loretta Victor; children, Darrin Holloway, Donnie Victor and wife Kimberly, Jena Johnson and husband Gene, and Lisa Victor; grandchildren, Larissa DeBlanc, Jordan Johnson, Crystal Ballin, Keana Ratliff, Kayla Womack, Jhonathan White, Makenzie White, and Keeley Victor; great-grandchild, Melanie White; and his brother, Mark Victor.

Cremation is under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Verna Lee Waldrep

Verna Lee Waldrep, 89, of Nederland, Texas passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2018.  Verna was born in Port Arthur, Texas to R.V.  and Thelma Lee Waddell on June 27, 1929.   Verna graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, Texas and went on to earn an Associate Degree from Lamar; she graduated with honors.  She was a hard worker, and her determination helped her become a business owner at a time when few women owned their own business.  Verna owned and managed Beauty Salons in Port Arthur, Texas, Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Orange, Texas.  Verna loved children, she would take them all in and love them.  She was a good cook and didn’t mind letting you know it!  Verna was artistic and crafty; she could sew and paint.  Her children stated that “If she loved you, she loved you, and you knew it”.

Verna is preceded in death by her parents, R.V. and Thelma Lee Waddell.

Verna is survived by her sons, Michael Waldrep, and wife Margaret, and Allan Waldrep, and wife, Rhonda; a daughter-in-law, Linda Waldrep; grandchildren, Clay Waldrep, and wife, Shelley, Wendy Totino, and husband, Shane, Manda Hall, and husband, Dave, Niki Waldrep, and Christopher Runyon, and wife Christine; great grandchildren, Brendon Waldrep, Jacelyn Waldrep, Lane Totino, Emilee Totino, Nathaniel Hall, Maggie Hall, Kirstin Peevey, Anthony Millovan, Linzee Neil, and Jenna Neil; 3 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, and nephews; a brother, Robert Darrell Waddell, and wife, Dorothy; a sister, Linda Domingue, and husband, Ray; a very special and dear friend, William E. “Bill” McBride.

Verna was the firecracker of the family and will be missed by all who loved and knew her.
