In loving memory of Jean Green Lea, 89, of Orange, Texas, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend who died peacefully on November 1, 2018 in Austin, surrounded by her daughter and granddaughter.

Jean was born Imogene Green in Burkburnett, Texas on February 25, 1929, the daughter of Roy S. and Jennie Belle Green, and the younger sister of Betty Jo. She grew up in East Texas and attended schools in Hughes Springs and Henderson. Shortly after she graduated high school in 1946, her family moved to Orange, the place she called home.

Her kind character and strong determination were developed during her youth, watching her father’s work ethic and experiencing her mother’s unconditional love. She built strong relationships with friends that would last a life time. She excelled at academics, taking classes at Lamar State College of Technology and delved into careers as a dental assistant and reporter at the Orange Leader. Jean found love early in life. She was married 10 years before becoming a widow.

On May 24, 1958, Jean married Richard (Dick) Lea, her husband of 53 years. They were blessed with a daughter, Brette, before moving to Clear Lake City, Texas — near Houston. She dedicated her life to her family and served her community as a volunteer in many organizations. As a lifelong learner, she made the decision to go back to college, earning a Bachelor’s of Arts from the University of Houston, Clear Lake.

Jean loved Elvis, Gone with the Wind, and gospel music. She enjoyed water skiing and travel, especially trips to the Hill Country with long-time friends. After 35 years in Clear Lake City, she and Dick returned to their hometown of Orange, where they became regulars at Sunset Grove Country Club and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Jean found tremendous joy in playing bridge, visiting art museums, antique shopping, and spending time with her friends and family. In 2000, she gained the title of “Mimi” given to her by her precious granddaughter, Lexi — her pride and joy.

Jean was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her kindness, beauty, and wisdom will remain with us always.

She is preceded in death by her husband Dick, father and mother Roy and Jennie Green, sister Betty Jo Traylor, brother-in-law Billy Traylor, and her first husband Gerald Bridges.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Brette Lea, and granddaughter, Alexis Lea, of Austin; Richard Williams of Austin; sister-in-law Dee Lea of Austin; nephews Norman Traylor of Beaumont, John Lea of Mexico, George Lea of Orange, Charles Lea of Houston, Bruce Lea of Florida, and Lev Flournoy of Ohio; nieces Nan Saucier of Winnsboro, Karen Dunnigan of Austin, Lisa Minnick of Dallas, Laura Miller of Austin, Suzanne Crow of Dallas, Sherry Ferguson of Mississippi, Penny Dukes of Mississippi, Robbie Lea of Driftwood, Lisa Alvarado of El Paso; many beloved grand and great grand—nephews and nieces, and cousins.

A celebration of Jean’s life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 10, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1401 W. Park Avenue in Orange, Texas with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Graveside services will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. Flowers may be sent to Claybar Funeral Home, 504 N. 5th Street, Orange, Texas 77630, 409-886-4445.

Billie Tucker was born in Monroe North Carolina on October 27,1942  In 1958 she moved to Southeast Texas with her mother Ruby.  In 1960, she met the man that she would spend a lifetime loving.  Until the end of her life she was a devoted and caring wife to the love of her life Francis Tucker.  They were married for 57 years, 10 months, 28 days and 4 hours.  They shared a lifetime of memories that will live on in the hearts of all that knew them.

Billie was truly one of a kind.  She exemplified all of the qualities of a great person.  She was a warm, kind, and gentle woman that loved everyone.  She was never one to complain or draw attention to herself no matter how bad things may have been for her.  That radiant smile and sweet disposition was always on display even in the bad times.  She loved a fresh brewed cup of coffee accompanied by some lively conversation from a visit with one of her many friends or relatives.

All of the attributes that many of us aspire to possess in our lives were ever present and evident in hers.  The world would be a much more loving place if there were more Billie Tucker’s around.  The tapestry of her life is the backdrop of beauty that lives on in her husband Francis, and all of her family and friends.  To know Billie was to see and feel true love and compassion mixed with the innocence of a child.  What a joy and honor it was to know her in this life, and if we will be so fortunate, to know her in the next.

On November 6th, 2018 at 4 a.m. in the morning the light and life of Billie Tucker left bounds of this world and was translated into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

BAILEE RAYE ACKERMAN BYLER entered this world on September 29, 1995 in Orange, Tx. She was presented to her mom and dad with a full head of blonde hair complete with a pink bow on top and big blue eyes. She departed this life on November 4, 2018 for her Heavenly home beside her husband William Troy Byler III shortly after their fairy tale wedding and reception.

Bailee was named after her grandfather Walter Ray Cox. It was no secret she had a love for animals, rodeo, and people. She also enjoyed hunting and adventures with Will. Bailee never met a stranger and was always out to protect the ones that needed it. Her faith in the Lord was strong and she valued her Christian upbringing. She truly believed her meeting Will was all in God’s plan as a result of giving God complete control of her life. Bailee was involved early in youth rodeo, Texas Jr. High and High School Rodeo Association Region 5, received numerous awards and honors in FFA, loved showing goats and swine. She also held rodeo queen titles which included Panola County Cattleman’s Association Queen 2013 and Miss Rodeo Austin Princess 2014.

Bailee was currently in her last semester at Sam Houston State University, where she had earned her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and Mass Communication. Her future educational goals included completing a Masters degree in Agricultural Sciences. Bailee had also been selected to be a part of the National Finals Rodeo Flag Girl Team this December in Las Vegas, Nevada. She looked forward to raising a family with Will. He made her smile from day one. He treated her like a true queen as only a gentleman would.

Will brought so much positivity and happiness to her life and they were inseparable. We know there are angels among us for they showed up that starry night to fly them to their eternal home. Bailee Raye will be truly missed by all who knew her. Until we meet again there will not be a moment her and Will are not in our hearts with plenty of memories to share.

Bailee is survived by her parents: Shane and Sharon Ackerman of Orangefield; brother: Wesley Ackerman of Orangefield; grandparents: Walter and Edith Cox “Paw Paw and Nana” of Orange; grandmother: Claudine Ackerman “Grammy” of San Antonio; nephews: Cru Smidt and Pacen Parrott; father in law and mother in law: Bill and Kerri Byler of Bellville; sisters in law and brothers in law: Brenna and Caleb Smidt and Lynette and Rowdy Parrott, all of Bellville; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends and extended rodeo family.

Honorary Pallbearers: Taylor Payne, Dusti Hussey, Kacie Wright, Madey Pipkin, Katie Ellis, Hanna Wallace, Rigby Baker, Callie Burton, Shellie Lummus, Kaylee Findley, Caleb Smidt, Rowdy Parrott.

WILLIAM TROY BYLER, III, “Will” was born on April 21st, 1995 in College Station, Texas. He left this earth and flew into the sky with his beautiful new bride Bailee Raye Ackerman Byler on November 4th, 2018 after leaving their dream wedding in Uvalde, Texas. Their feet never touched the ground again. When they entered the gates of heaven, Will and Bailee walked hand in hand just as they left us.

Will grew up loving anything and everything outdoors. He youth rodeoed, he hunted, and he enjoyed tending to his cattle, dogs, and horses. Will’s favorite place to be was at the family ranch in Uvalde. He was always up to something mischievous. As Bailee put it, they were always on some kind of “Will adventure”. From an early age, Will took every opportunity to jump in the helicopter and view life from the sky. He lived every day to its fullest potential and feared nothing. Jesus was the Lord of his life. Every moment that Will walked this earth, he was a living, Christ-like example to everyone who knew him. Throughout his short life, he touched so many lives and brought true joy to all of our hearts.

In high school, Will continued to compete in Texas High School Rodeo Association and was an all-star athlete, but he loved football with a passion and shined on the field. Will was always sure to be the class clown and find a special place in everyone’s heart. He graduated from Faith Academy of Bellville in 2014 and proceeded to attend college at Sam Houston State University and lived in Huntsville, Texas. He was a member of the SHSU rodeo team where he competed in steer wrestling. He qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo in 2017. He was currently sitting second in the Southern Region steer wrestling standings, hoping to make another trip to Casper, Wyoming. After graduating in May 2019 with a degree in Agriculture Engineering, he had plans to start his career at W.T. Byler Company.

Will was very close with his family. He shared something uniquely special with his mother, Kerri. She was responsible for Will’s tender, compassionate, and loving heart. Will always counted on his dad, Bill, for Godly advice and direction in any circumstance of his life. He loved his older sisters, Brenna and Lynette, and confided in them about everything. He admired both of his brother in laws, Caleb and Rowdy, and found so much joy in playing with his nephews, Cru and Pacen.

If you knew Will, you knew he loved with every being in his body. He never met a stranger and would do anything for anybody at the drop of a hat. He wore his heart on his sleeve. It shined through the biggest dimples you have ever seen with the sweetest smile. Will was always the life of the party and kept a smile on everyone’s face. Will had so many friends that were near and dear to his heart.

When Will met Bailee he was forever changed. She was his saving grace. He knew she was his soulmate from the beginning. Bailee made his eyes brighter and his smile bigger. She was his world and he would do anything to make her happy. Will’s love for the Lord showed in how he loved Bailee. They had a special kind of love. A love that was too perfect for this broken world. Now they will have a perfect marriage and spend an eternal honeymoon together with Our Savior.

Will was loved by all. He will forever be in our hearts and always on our minds.

Will is survived by his parents: Bill and Kerri Byler of Bellville; sisters: Brenna Smidt and her husband, Caleb, of Bellville and Lynette Parrott and her husband, Rowdy, of Bellville; nephews: Cru Smidt and Pacen Parrott; mother in law and father in law: Shane and Sharon Ackerman of Orangefield; grandmother: JoAnn Fergeson “Nanny” of Bellville; grandparents: Troy and Merlene Byler “Pa and Ma” of Bellville and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends and extended rodeo family.

Nancy Marie Mitchell was born on December 15, 1940 to Percy and Lucy Mitchell in Orange, TX. She was the seventh of twelve children. She was raised in a Christian home and grew to love the Lord at an early age, and was a lifelong member of Salem United Methodist Church. Nancy graduated from Wallace High School in 1959, she married Franklin R. Thompson Sr. shortly afterwards. She was known for her wonderful cooking and her culinary gift landed her work at The Capistrano restaurant and in later years at West Orange-Stark school district until retirement.  She often had family and friends gather together through her delicious cooking. She loved people and she would feed a stranger.

Nancy didn’t have a lot in monetary value, but she was rich with love, with kindness, and generosity; and she was quick to offer help to others. Her winning smile, non-judgmental attitude, unselfishness and unconditional love, drew people to her.  This was especially evident during her last hospital stay at Methodist St. Catherine, where those who weren’t even assigned to her area, would come by, just to see her smile. No matter how sick she was, she maintained a pleasant disposition and a sunny outlook each day. She was highly protective of those she loved and would always see the “good” in those that were thought of as castaways. She rarely became angry, but if she did, her forgiving heart wouldn’t allow it to last long, for she never held grudges or became resentful. She was the living example of 1 Corinthians 13:4-13. She left this world and transitioned to join our heavenly Father on November 5, 2018.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents above and her siblings, Freeman Mitchell, Alma Mitchell Randall, Percy Mitchell Jr., Louis Mitchell, and Bill Mitchell. She leaves loving memories with her surviving sisters and brothers, Robert George Mitchell (Mary Ann), Shirley Mitchell Joseph, and Pamela Mitchell Robinson of Orange, Texas. Ivanola Mitchell Bryant (Melvin) of Riverside, California. Nathan Mitchell and Bertha Mitchell Lazenby (Herman) of Los Angeles, California.

Her love for her children was uncompromising and she leaves her example of love in her only daughter, Lalita R. Thompson of Houston, Texas, her eldest son, Franklin R. Thompson Jr. (Andrea) of Beaumont, Texas and her baby, Shawn D. Thompson of Orange, Texas. Nancy has 9 grandchildren, Miya Thompson, Brandy Rhodes-Thompson, JaJuan Thompson, Perry Thompson, Franekia Thompson, Randy Rhodes Jr., Ja’Marrion Thompson, and Ja’Vonte Thompson. She also leaves behind 3 great grandchildren Za’Kenya, KeVunn, and La’Darius, a God daughter, Roslyn Hadnott Woodard; and host of nieces and nephews.

Going home celebration will be on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Salem United Methodist Church in Orange, Texas.

Services time begins at 3:00 PM.  Visitation begins at 1:30 PM until service time.  Interment will follow at Hollywood Cemetery in Orange, Texas.  Under the direction of Colonial Memorial Chapel.
