Norman Lee Shannon

Norman Lee Shannon, 79, of Groves, Texas passed away Saturday, February 2, 2019 at his home.

He was born February 24, 1939 in Beaumont, Texas to William Rufus Shannon and Lillian Garner Shannon.

Norman had lived in Groves for 51 years and was a member of Park Central Church of Christ. He enjoyed the game of golf and was an avid golfer.

He was retired from Texaco Research as a Foreman after 33 years of service.

Norman proudly served his country in the United States Marines.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Mr. Brian French officiating.

A visitation for family and friends will be before the service on Thursday beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Norman was preceded in death by his grandson, Tyler Shannon, his parents and brother, W.R. Shannon.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Shannon of Groves, TX., daughter, Tracey Martin of Groves, TX., three sons, Troy Shannon and wife Billie of Scottsboro, AL., Kelly Shannon of Pearland, TX., and Rusty Shannon and wife Brandy of Groves, TX., ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Marie J. “Jean” Robinson Braus

Marie J. “Jean” Robinson Braus, 91, of Bridge City, Texas, passed away on February 5, 2019, at The Meadows in Orange, Texas, after a brief illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 8, 2019, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Bridge City. Officiating will be Father Steve Leger. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City, Texas.

Born in Kaplan, Louisiana, on March 13, 1927. She was the daughter of Blanch Andy LeMaire-Robinson and Calvin Clifford Robinson. Jean was a devoted member of St. Henry Catholic Church for over six decades. She was an active member of their Altar Society where she served as past President as well as a member of the Bereavement Committee. She also served as past President of the Bridge City Band Booster Club for many years. Jean enjoyed many activities with the Knights of Columbus, especially the annual Lenten Fish Fry. She was fluent in English and French and loved to talk on the phone with her friends and family in Louisiana and all over the United States. Jean worked as a guide for the American Sportsmen’s Club in West Texas for seven years with her husband Lercy and enjoyed hunting deer, ducks, and turkey. She also enjoyed spending time salt water fishing with her family and many friends. When she caught it or shot it, she could cook it too! Jean loved and created all kinds of art including cross stitching and her favorite- ceramics. She loved her family dearly and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Blanch and Calvin; her loving husband of 60 years, Lercy Joseph Braus, brother, Clifford “Teboy” Robinson; sister, Mae Rose Blanchard; and her youngest son, Billy Joseph Braus.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, James E. Braus and wife Sissy, and Mark S. Braus; grandchildren, James R. Braus, Melanie Braus-Benlien, Jeffrey S. Braus, Bradley J. Braus, Laci Braus-Becker, Christopher S. Braus, and Andrew J. Braus; great-grandchildren, Maigan C. Braus, Brody James Braus, Azlin Benlien, Bree Becker, Brody Becker, Marshall Braus, Lane Braus, and Lilly Braus; as well as many other extended family and dear friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be James R. Braus, Jeffrey S. Braus, Bradley J. Braus, Laci Braus-Becker, Russell Robinson, and Kaplan Robinson.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her Godson, Clinton Findley and especially his wife, Linda Findley, for their unwavering love and support.

David Rodney Bussell

David Rodney Bussell, 75, of Orange, Texas, passed away on February 5, 2019, in Beaumont.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 10, 2019, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Keith Tilley of Faith United Methodist Church and Reverend Randy Branch of Wesley United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Starks, Louisiana, on March 2, 1943, he was the son of Albert Bussell and Margaret Doyle. David served in the United States Army in the 8th U.S. Army Field Artillery Detachment. He loved baseball, bass fishing, and cooking his famous gumbo. David will be dearly missed by all those who came to know and love him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Bussell, mother, Margaret Doyle, and step-father, Claude Hitt; loving wife of 44 years, Anita Bussell; and brother, Albert Bussell, Jr. 

He is survived by his children, Jeff Bussell and wife Valerie, Jason Bussell and wife Lisa, and Kathy Bussell; grandchildren, Brittney Cruse and husband Greg, Zachary Bussell, Joshua Amaimo, Carter Lapeyrolerie, Aden Lapeyrolerie, Mackenzie Bussell, and Jaxon Bussell; great-grandchild, Kate Cruse; siblings, Randy Bussell, Don Bussell, Brenda Bendo; and best friend, Charles Winter.

Walter Roy Johnson

Walter Roy Johnson was born Nov. 25th. 1949 in Dallas, Tx. and passed away Jan. 31st. 2019 in Dallas, Tx. Roy grew up in both Dallas/Orange areas where he was involved in just about everything from cutting meat as a butcher at Popeyes and JBs to selling cars. He later moved to Dallas where he was involved in the Bar B Q business for over 35yrs. He still enjoyed his casino trips and some “occasional” bets from time to time. Roy loved to live life, he was a fun guy that loved everyone and everyone loved him back. Roy never met a stranger and never judged anyone, although he could hold a grudge if he knew you disrespected anyone especially his family. Roy loved to fish on the family land with his Dad in Farmersville when he had the chance, he loved last minute road trips alone or with Cathy to just about anywhere the car took them. He was always down for a game of pool and he definitely had more wins than losses. Roy will be loved and missed by many, but will be remembered by everyone that knew him or knew of him. Roy is preceded in death by his parents Raymond Johnson and Rosalie Durio. Roy is survived by his longtime girlfriend Cathy Clark of Mesquite and daughter Lauren O’Neill. His sister Sandy Babin of Conroe, brother Michael Johnson and wife Wanda Johnson of Orange, step brother Marvin Smith and wife Jackie of Van Alstyne, Tx. Daughter Tracy and husband Richard of Coppell, Tx, His two sons Brandon Johnson and Troy Johnson both of Orange, Tx. Grandsons Ryan Johnson and Ty Johnson of Orange, granddaughters Aaliyah Johnson of Orange, Tx. Chloey Johnson of Jersey Village, Tx. Shelby Connolly, Connie Lynn Connolly and Katherine Brown. Trent Lara Burkham kids Felicity and Johnathan, Madison Pinkston and husband Ryan and kids Grace and Joseph. Zach Norman, Paige Norman. Great grandsons Landon Connolly and Gracetyn Walter James Connolly. Niece Bridgette Babin nephews Brett Babin Mark and Gary Watts. We will be having a celebration of life for Roy that everyone is invited to so that we can share great memories of him with everyone. Everyone is welcome to bring finger foods, pictures etc. but most of all bring smiles and good stories. A local celebration is in the plans for those unable to make the trip to Dallas, but for now this is the plan. Friday Feb. 15th we are meeting at Mikes Island Club located at 10834 Ferguson Rd. Dallas, Tx. 75228 at 7pm and then Saturday Feb. 16th we are meeting at Belzies located at 2240 Gus Thomasson Rd. Dallas. Tx. 75228 at 8pm. Roys family would like to thank everyone for all the prayers, phone calls and txt msgs. We love you and hope to see you all there, thank you.

Billy Ray Gray

Billy Ray Gray passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at his home in Austin, Texas. Billy was 70 years of age.

Billy was born on May 28, 1948 in Loretto, Tennessee to the late Otis Gray and Gladys (Ells) Gray. He was a Vietnam War veteran, serving from 1968-1969 in the U.S. Army 6th Battalion, 80th Field Artillery Regiment as a wireman. He achieved the rank of Spec 4.

Billy, for more than 30 years, lived the American Dream owning and operating his own fire protection business in Orange and Austin, TX. Infectious laughter with a larger than life personality, he oozed charisma and lit up a room. He loved with his full heart, never met a stranger and made many life-long friends.

Billy was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, a sister, and son, Chuck Pomeroy, Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn (Hix) Pomeroy Gray of Austin, TX; daughter Alysse Gray of Dallas, TX and son Jordan and wife Carly Gray of Spicewood, TX; daughter Alicia (Pomeroy) and husband Ronald Hebert, daughter Lisa (Pomeroy) and husband Richard Morris, and son Clayton Pomeroy, all of Orange, TX; sister Bonnie (Gray) Goodwin of Lumberton, TX, sister Kathie (Lawrence) Davis of Kountze, TX, sister Mavis Renee (Durr) Reiszner of Houston, TX; goddaughter Janie Hatzenbuehler, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North IH-35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. Funeral Celebrant Donna Mayfield will be officiating with military honors afforded by the United States Army.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the time of service at 2:00 pm.

William Doyle Mahan

Doyle Mahan, 63 of Vidor died Thursday, February 7th, 2019 at his residence. A native of Beaumont, TX, he was a longtime resident of Vidor. Doyle worked for AET Services in Galveston, TX for a while and was a carpenter. He enjoyed fishing and carpentry, but his true passion was reading. Doyle served his country in the US Army. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor.  A gathering for family and friends will be held at Louise Benoit Hall in Vidor from 2:00 – 5:00 pm Sunday, February 17, 2019. Doyle is survived by his brothers Tony Mahan and his wife Beverly, Danny Mahan and his wife Julie, and sister Denise Mahan all of Vidor, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents Burt and Eton Mahan and brother John Michael Mahan.

David Thomas

The Celebration of Life for Mr. David Thomas, 83, of Orange, will be Saturday, February 9th, 2019 at 11 am at Sparrow Funeral Home. Rites of Christian Burial will follow in Magnolia Memorial Gardens under the direction of Sparrow Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 until 11am.

David Thomas was born March 23, 1935 in Extension, LA to Mr. Joe Thomas, Sr. and Mrs. Clara Grimble Thomas.

He united in Holy Matrimony with Hester January, who remained at his side until “death do us part”.

He has resided in Orange, TX some 60 years. His working years here were spent as a cook at the former Jack Tar Orange House Hotel and as a custodian for Gulf States Utilities.

The summons from life to life eternal came Tuesday, January 29th, 2019 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, TX.

Forever cherishing his memory are his wife Hester of Orange, son, David Cooper (Kristal) of Katy, TX, daughters, Debra Frye of Orange, Shareece Banks(Marvin) and Shinelle McCormick (Hayward) , all of Virginia Beach, VA, Barbara Langlanais of Oklahoma City, OK and Verline Green of Bastrop, LA, brother, Joe Thomas (Laura) of Gilbert, LA, 22 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren.

Gladys Gooch Johnson

Gladys Gooch Johnson, age 94, of Marianna, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, after suffering a prolonged illness.

She was born on January 26, 1925, in Hemphill, Texas to Walter Lee Gooch and Beulah Youngblood Gooch. She married James E. Johnson on October 3, 1943, in a military wedding chapel in Wichita, Kansas. They were married for 70 years.

Her life-long, professional career was a secretary. Her proficiency, attention to detail, and excellent people skills served her well for eight years as Secretary for Apostolic Bible Institute in St. Paul, Minnesota, and then 20 years as Secretary for West Orange High School in West Orange, Texas, from which she retired. Whether it was a student, teacher, custodian, or top administrator, she was known and loved by all. In post-retirement, she worked as a home parent for Methodist Children’s Home in Waco, Texas, and later worked part time for Orange County Teacher’s Credit Union.

She dedicated her life to serving God and her family. She had a zeal for life, loved to laugh, and was famous for her sense of humor and practical jokes. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. In later years, she was saddened by the death of close family members and the onslaught on Alzheimer’s disease. Her memory will be cherished in the hearts of her family and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Johnson. She is survived by three children and their spouses, James E. and Joyce Johnson of Huntington, Texas, Sharon and Virgil Lipford of Marianna, Florida, Pat and David Leiter of Manheim, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Joel Johnson, Kimberley Johnson, Jason Lipford, Jana Rednour, and Brandon Guidry; seven great-grandchildren, Jeremy Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Faith Johnson, Lance Johnson, Nathan Lipford, Katie Patrick, John Rednour IV, and Josiah Rednour; one great-great-grandchild, Isabella Rose Johnson and a very special niece, Carolyn McLemore of The Woodlands, Texas.

Visitation for Mrs. Johnson will be Saturday, February 9, 2019, beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.  Officiating will be Reverend Ronnie Frankens, pastor of Greater Love Tabernacle in Lufkin. 

Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor.  Pallbearers will be Joel Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Jason Lipford, Jeremy Byrom, Larry Hammett and Johnny Roy Bergeron.

H.D. “Doug” Burch

H.D. “Doug” Burch, 93, of Orange, Texas, passed away on February 6, 2019, in Beaumont, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 15, 2019, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange, Texas. Officiating will be Brother John Sims, of Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. 

Born in Orange, Texas, on September 18, 1925, he was the son of G.A. Burch and Martha A. (Chadwell) Burch. Doug proudly served his country in the United States Navy and went on to retire from Montgomery Ward as a Truck Driver. He enjoyed old western movies and had a band he played with every Friday night for 22 years. Doug loved his family dearly and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, G.A. and Martha Burch; and his loving wife, Louise Cobb Burch.

Doug is survived by his niece, Shirley Dunham, of Orange; as well many other nieces, nephews, other family, and loving friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ray and Linda Burch as well as Doug’s Friday night jam friends.

 Funeral service will be held at El Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at 2:00 P.M. Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon with burial at Magnolia Memorial Gardens Cemetery, under the direction of Calvary Mortuary Staff.
 Her love will remain in the heart of her mother, Cheryl Mitchell; Dereck Edwards who was like a father; sister, Miosiha Scott (Lucas); brother, Colby D. Mitchell; nephew, Lan’Deyn Scott; Godchild, Jeremicia Thomas; father, Wilbert Kirklin; other relatives, and friends.

Marvin Don Watson

Marvin Don Watson, 75, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on January 7, 1943, to William Alonzo and Ava Angeline (Watson) Coward in Port Arthur, Texas. When his mother passed away when he was four years old, he went to live with his aunt and uncle, Annie and Melvin Coward, in Cleves, Ohio.

Don is survived by his son Daniel Watson and wife Michelle, grandchildren Matthew, Joshua and Cathlynn, brothers George Coward (Sandra), Cecil Coward, and Robert Coward, sisters Arlene Christiansen, Aline Goddard, Frances Bertrand (Mitchell), Jean Martin, and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. Don was a loving father, grandfather and a friend to everyone he met. He was preceded in death by his parents, his aunt and uncle who raised him, and brothers Irvin Coward and James (Jim) Coward and sister, Adele Parsons.

He graduated from William Henry Harrison High School in Harrison, Ohio and El Camino Community College in Torrance, California. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Viet Nam veteran. He worked for many years in civil service at Castle Air Force base in Atwater, California and retired from the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Don loved to work and play. His fall and winter weekends were spent in the foothills of California panning for gold with his brother Cecil and his son. Free time in the summer was spent enjoying a leisurely swim in the pool. Don loved watching the San Francisco ‘49ers football team. Later in life he discovered his error and began rooting for the Dallas Cowboys. Don also loved astronomy and geology. Many winter nights were spent far away from the city lights peering deep into space searching for comets, meteors or just showing his son the rings of Saturn. After retiring he lived in Orange for many years and attended Wesley United Methodist Church with sisters Frances and Jean and St. Henry Catholic Church with his sister Arlene. He alternated Sundays to keep everyone happy and he enjoyed the fellowship at both churches. After being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2014 he moved to Colorado to be near his son and family.

A visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City, Texas with the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. The Rev. Randall Branch of Wesley United Methodist Church in Orange will preside.  Military honors will be presented at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens immediately following the funeral service.

Don positively affected everyone he came in contact with. He was a caring and generous person who will be greatly missed.

Bettie T. Durham

Bettie T. Durham, 91, of Orange, Texas, passed away on February 8, 2019, in Vidor, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 15, 2019, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Pastor Jeff Bell. Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn in West Orange, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Port Arthur, Texas, on November 8, 1927, she was the daughter of Carl Christian Tranberg and Winnie Elizabeth (Chessher) Tranberg. Bettie attended Port Arthur College where she met her husband, Dean Durham, and they later married on August 31, 1947. She enjoyed her years as a homemaker and then later working at First Christian Church and the Dispute Resolution Center. Bettie was a member of the Pilot Club and a former member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She enjoyed taking care of her rose bushes, but most of all she loved taking care of her family. Bettie was a devoted wife and mother, and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dean M. Durham; her parents, Carl and Winnie Tranberg; her brother, Nick Wilkins, and her sons-in-law, Lindsey Slaten and Keith Van Winkle.

She is survived by her children, Karen Jean Van Winkle of Orange, Danna Beth Durham of Orange, Paul David Durham of Orange, and Carl Dean Durham of Lufkin; her grandchildren, Jennifer Durham, Marshall Van Winkle, Bethany Slaten, Aaron Jones, Dean Durham, Susan Durham, Lindsey Slaten, Elliot Slaten, and Jessie Mae Madera; and her great-grandchildren, Addisynn Gillum and Makynnzie Creel.

Serving as pallbearers will be Paul Durham, Marshall Van Winkle, Aaron Jones, David Short, Daniel Creel, and Dylan McGuire.

Mark Alan Bonnin, Sr., 62, of Nederland, Texas, passed away at his home.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange with Reverend Joseph Daleo of St. Mary Catholic Church officiating.

Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

Born in Orange, Texas, on December 6, 1956, he was the son of Riley Joseph Bonnin and Jane Bonnin Jeanis. Mark worked many years as a driver for Classic Chevrolet. He was a graduate of Stark High School where he enjoyed playing football and excelled in baseball. Mark was an avid sports fan, especially baseball, and loved The Houston Astros and The Dallas Cowboys. He loved his family dearly and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Riley Joseph Bonnin; and his grandparents, Elzie and Eliza Richard and Ed and Eunice Bonnin.

Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Jane Bonnin Jeanis and husband Curtis, Sr., of Orange; children, Morgan Brooke Bonnin, of Austin and Mark Alan Bonnin, Jr. and fiancé Laura Ucci, of Porter; siblings, Lisa Blackstock, of Broken Arrow, OK, Susan Dorman and husband Bohn, of Orange, Myra Comeaux and husband Paul, of Houston, Kirk Bonnin, of Orange, Margo Merritt, of Kingwood, Tim Bonnin and wife Angie, of Beaumont, and Boyd Bonnin, of Orange; as well as numerous other loving family and friends.

Bernice Marie Mires, 98, of Orangefield, Texas, passed away on February 11, 2019, in Port Arthur, Texas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Orange. Officiating will be Father Joseph Daleo. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Portie Town, Louisiana, on December 28, 1920, she was the daughter of Emedis Foreman and Dolly Belle (Landry) Foreman Berry Parker. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas #1255 Our Lady of LaSalette at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Sulphur. She worked for Our Lady School Bingo for many years where she enjoyed working and playing bingo. Bernice loved her family dearly and was always there to take care of them for anything they needed. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emedis and Dolly; her loving husband, James Richard “Red” Mires, Sr.; children, J. R. Mires, Jr., Eugene Mires, Loretta Mires, and Burt Mires; and her siblings, Maureen Webb, and Curtis “Porkie” Parker.

Bernice is survived by her children, Marilyn Broussard and husband Tim, of Sulphur, LA, Wynne Mires and wife Patricia, of Orangefield, and Del Mires and wife Annabelle, of Orange; grandchildren, Gene and Felicia Mires, Joe Mires, Sal and Lisa Gomez, D.J. and Sha Mires, Heather Mires, Jessica and Chris Czepiel, April and Rory Slaughter, Jacalyn and Rick Padilla, Ashley and Russell Eddy, Stacey and Jarrett Rodrick, and Brittney and Luke Agerton; along with numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother, J.C. Foreman; daughters-in-law, Virginia Mires and Sylvia Mires; sister-in-law, Jane Parker; and other loving family and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Joe, Gene, D.J., Blake, Devin, Cade, and Daniel Mires.

Evander Sue Harrison, age 74, of Orange, Texas, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2019. A memorial service to honor Sue’s life will be held at Dorman Funeral Home in Orange, Texas on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 11:00 AM, with Brother David Wagner officiating.

Sue was born on Friday, February 2, 1945, in Kinder, Louisiana to parents, Mary Emily (Fontenot) and Madison Evander Marler. She had been a lifetime resident of Orange, Texas after moving from Kinder, Louisiana over 54 years ago. Sue was a very loving, good hearted woman who loved her family dearly. Her family was everything to her and she never failed to let them know it. She met the love of her life when she met Johnny Ray Harrison. The couple eloped on Halloween in 1963 and never looked back. They had one precious son whom they loved with all their hearts, Scotty Harrison. Johnny Ray and Sue were married for 41 blissful years until Johnny’s passing in 2006. Sue loved taking vacations, cooking and singing. She always kept a tidy house, as she also loved to clean. Sue had two grandchildren and four great grandchildren that she loved unconditionally and was absolutely sure that they hung the moon. Her nieces and nephews were also very close to her heart. Overall, the center of Sue’s entire life and existence in this world was centered around God. She truly believed in God’s promises of hope and eternal life and she honored him in everything she did. She was of the Protestant faith and a proud member of Community Church in Orange, Texas. Sue was a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother sister and friend who will forever be loved and missed by all who knew her.  

Sue is preceded in death by her loving husband of 41 years, Johnny Ray Harrison; parents, Madison and Mary Marler; brother, Vernon Elmo Wallace, JR.; sisters, Robbie Conn Ladner and Patricia Marler.

Sue is survived by her son, Scotty Harrison and wife Keri of Orange, Texas; brothers, James Marler of Sulphur, Louisiana, Billy Marler of Sasebo, Japan and David Marler of Hineston, Louisiana; sisters, Janice Fay Esthay of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Anna Sweat of Alexandria, Louisiana; grandchildren, Kaci Williford and husband Aaron and Daniel Harrison and wife Lindsey, all of Orange, Texas; great grandchildren, Aiden, Jensen, Lillian and Brooklyn.

Frank Alphonse Srubar, 78, of Orange, Texas, passed away on February 10, 2019, in Beaumont, Texas.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.

Born in East Benard, Texas, on August 2, 1940, he was the son of Frank Allen Srubar and Lydia (Lidbik) Srubar. Frank proudly served his country in the United States Army. He then went on to work as a construction hand and retired after many years.  Frank enjoyed fishing, hunting, and being with family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Srubar and Lydia Lidbik Srubar Pence.

He is survived by his children, Lesley Underwood and wife Tammy of Bridge City, Kimberly Jane LaRue Srubar of La Porte, and Stormy Louise Srubar and husband Robert Escobedo of Orange; his grandchildren, Christopher Luther James Underwood, Lesley “L. J.” Ray Underwood, Jr., Eric Collins, Nicholas Collins, and Lilee Roze Underwood; his great-grandchild, Christopher “C. J.” Luther Allen Underwood; and his siblings, Richard Srubar, Rodney Pence, and Sandra Jackson.

Ralph Ray Hoffpauir, a resident of Singer, Louisiana, was born on July 12, 1952 and passed away on February 8, 2019. 

He is survived by his children, Amy Kerry and husband, Billy of  Singer, Louisiana; and Bert Alan Hoffpauir and wife, Kayla of Orange, Texas; his grandchildren, Reagan Karr and husband, Colin, Savannah Kerry, Roamy Kerry, Kruz Kerry, Kasey Hoffpauir and Jackson Hoffpauir; and one great grandson, Colvin.  He is also survived by his siblings,  Martha Ellen Hunter, Walter Daniel Hoffpauir, Jr. , Kathleen Kelley,  Lillie Gordey, Frances Lawson,  Fredrick Henry Hoffpauir, and James Karroll Hoffpauir.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Dan Hoffpauir and Vivan Hoffpauir,  siblings, Terry Walter Hoffpauir, Samuel Andrew Hoffpauir and Esther Louise Hoffpauir.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 beginning at 10:00 A.M. at Brown Cemetery, Mauriceville Texas.

Arrangements are being handled by Riley Smith Funeral Home, 1810 West Fourth Street, DeQuincy, Louisiana.

Robert “Bob” Anton Zavada

Robert “Bob” Anton Zavada, age 73 of Orange, Texas, passed away at his home on Monday, February 11, 2019. Services to honor Robert’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Dorman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dale Lee officiating.  Interment will immediately follow at Wilkinson Cemetery. Family and friends will gather for a visitation one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Robert was born in Buna, Texas on December 30, 1945 to Sarah Marks Zavada and Antone Zavada. He worked as a Journeyman Meat Cutter throughout his life and retired from Market Basket. Robert loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was the former owner of Bob’s Tackle Shop and a long time member of Cowboy Church of Orange County.  He was a loving husband, father and Paw that will be missed greatly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Antone Zavada and Sarah Blair, daughter Wendy Dawn Scow and sister Carol Lowe.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Darline Zavada, daughter Misty Robin Zavada of Midland, TX, sisters Freida Shaw and her husband Donny of Jasper, TX and Lisa Bohler of Kirbyville, TX, brother-in-law Leon Lowe of Thornton, TX, two grandchildren Jennifer Madison Scow and Jacob David Zavada. He also played a huge role in the upbringing of Martha Martin, Molly Mayfield, Dottie Robinson, Patsy Perry and Johna Trahan and Freida Shaw.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Zavada, Terry Van Robinson, Thurman Doyle, Jr., Tony Joe Doyle, David Bussell, Mark Bussell and Tim Lowe. Honorary pallbearers will be Jordan Doyle, Dalton Doyle, Paul Martin, Donny Shaw and Joe Scow.

Imogene Dunn, 88, of Orange, Texas, passed away on February 14, 2019, in Silsbee, Texas.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Pastor Todd Tucker. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens in Nederland.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., prior to the service, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Shelbyville, Texas, on January 24, 1931, she was the daughter of Lonnie V. Gallander and Era Belle Jolly. Imogene was a member of Katy Baptist Church in Colmesneil and Colmesneil Eastern Star. She loved to cook, bake and enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and painting. Imogene will be dearly missed by all those who came to know and love her.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Waid Dunn; brothers, Johnny Gallander, Vernon Gallander, and Kenneth Gallander; sister, Bonnie Sue Gallander; and furbaby, Millie.

She is survived by her children, Dale Dunn and wife Pamela of Silsbee, and Beverly Whittington of Bridge City; grandchildren, Angie Hunt and husband Jack, Duane Whittington and wife Brandi, Joseph Dunn and wife Andrea, Laurie Gambrell and husband Eric, Tasha Werner and husband Mike, and Hunter Harper; great-grandchildren, Emilee Whittington, Ethan Dunn, Emma Dunn, Ella Dunn, Hannahjane Werner, Brinnin Werner, Zak Werner, Wyatt Werner, and Maddie Bozeman; and siblings, Billy Gallander and wife Bertha Rae of Nederland, and Barbara Ann Havard and husband Nolan of Maryville, Tennessee.

Serving as pallbearers will be Joey Dunn, Ethan Dunn, Duane Whittington, Jack Hunt, Steve Swearingen, and James Lucia. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Roger Williams.

Roy Jenkins, Jr. was born December 21st, 1936 in Bon Wier, TX to Mr. Roy Jenkins and Mrs. Mattie Wagner Jenkins.

Coming to Orange in his formative years, he was a 1955 graduate of Emma H. Wallace High School.

Growing into manhood he enlisted in the United States Army and was “Discharged with Honors”.

Residing in Chicago, IL since 1962, he was employed by the Chicago Transit Authority.

His summons from earthly life to life eternal came Monday, February 4th, 2019 at Advocate Trinity Hospital in Chicago.

Forever cherishing his memory are 2 daughters, Melanie Jenkins of Baytown, TX and Phyllis Tennard (Kenneth) of Missouri City, TX, 1 sister, Annie B. Hardin (Leroy) of Orange, 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, his extended family of Chicago, Brea and Jada Jones, Shelia House and Kathy Smith, and numerous other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
